Year’s longest night celebrated with Green Bay Trail parade
It was a walk in the park for festive locals who joined the Friends of the Green Bay Trail for the Winter Solstice Parade on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
The Friends teamed with the Glencoe Park District for the event at Shelton Park, where participants recognized the longest night of the year — meaning more light lies ahead.

Families and neighbors were encouraged to wear lights and sing as they walked down the Green Bay Trail and then back to Shelton Park for a campfire complete with hot chocolate.
New this year, the Friends added a special element: the Abbot’s Bromley Horn Dance, which is an ancient procession that originated in 11th-century England. It is meant to ensure a successful hunting season and originally called for the use of reindeer antlers.
The participating dancers during the event were Village Manager Phil Kiraly and Eleanor Kiraly, Cam Avery, Lynn Donaldson, Dan Goodwin, Gary Harman and Diane Greening.
