Wear a rival’s gear? One superintendent will have to after the New Trier-Stevenson football result
The gauntlet has been thrown.
The New Trier vs. Stevenson football battle Friday night, Sept. 3, has more at stake than a usual nonconference showdown after the districts’ superintendents agreed to a friendly wager.
According to Instagram posts from each school, the superintendent of the losing school must wear spirit gear from the winning schools.
“Can’t wait to see you wearing this New Trier t-shirt next week after we beat the Patriots!” said NTHS Superintendent Dr. Paul Sally in a school Instagram post where he is wearing a Trevians baseball-style T-shirt.
In Stevenson’s rival post, Superintendent Eric Twadell is holding up a black Patriots T-shirt that Sally must wear if Stevenson claims victory.
The idea for the friendly wager was born out of a conversation between Sally and athletics staffers. Sally contacted Twadell, and it as on.
“Both superintendents really just wanted to have some fun and show their school spirit after the challenges of the past school year,” said Niki Dizon, New Trier’s communications director in an email to The Record.
The friendly wager centers on the outcome of Friday’s football matchup in which Stevenson visits New Trier for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Patriots are 0-1 after a loss to Maine South in Week 1, while the Trevians downed Lyons in their opener on Friday, Aug. 27.
