Police Reports: Kenilworth family finds stranger in their home and petting their dog; CTA employee spit on; and more

These reports were pulled from police summaries provided by departments in our coverage area (Wilmette, Winnetka, Northfield, Kenilworth and Glencoe) during the week of Sunday-Saturday, Aug. 1-7.

WILMETTE

There were four incidents of Illinois Department of Employment Services fraud filed between July 30-Aug. 6 in Wilmette.

Aug. 4

• A CTA employee reported that a female passenger spit on her around 6:25 p.m. The passenger reportedly left prior to police arrival.

Aug. 3

• In separated reports, two individuals reported damage to their vehicles. The first in the 2700 block of Hawthorn Lane and the second in the 4000 block of Fairway Drive — about two miles away from each other.

• A catalytic converter was reportedly removed from a car overnight in the 1900 block of Wilmette Avenue.

Aug. 1

• A bicycle that was reportedly locked was taken in the 300 block of Skokie Court.

July 31

• A bicycle that was reportedly unlocked was taken from Centennial Park, 23100 Old Glenview Road.

KENILWORTH

Aug. 4

• A resident reportedly woke up to their dog barking inside their home at 12:38 a.m. in the 400 block of Sheridan Road. The resident walked into the kitchen area to find an unknown man petting their dog. When confronted, the man said something along the lines of “I shouldn’t be here” then ran out the back door, according to the police report. He was described as a white male, 25 years old, 5-foot-10-inches, 230 pounds, dark hair, wearing blue jeans and a dark shirt. It is believed the man entered the home through the unlocked door. The area was searched by police with negative results.

WINNETKA

Aug. 1

• Between July 16-Aug. 1, red spray paint was used to deface the east concrete wall at Cherry Street on the Green Bay Trail. Repair costs are $299.

July 29

• The base of a speed limit sign, worth $750, was reportedly damaged between 4-8:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Hibbard Road.

NORTHFIELD

There was one incident of Illinois Department of Employment Services fraud filed on July 26 in Northfield.

July 27

• Officers responded to Becker Animal Hospital, 322 W. Frontage Road, for a report that at approximately 4:30 p.m. June 7, a client in the reception area was bitten by a dog of another client.

• A resident reported unauthorized deposits and withdrawals from their checking account. The case is under investigation.

July 26

• Officers responded to a call at 6:05 p.m. of an irate customer upset about their repair bill at Field’s Volvo, 770 W. Frontage Road. The customer ultimately paid the bill and left the scene without any further incident.
