Police Reports: Cigars and humidor stolen from country club, $5,000 worth of items missing from home, more
These reports were pulled from police summaries provided by departments in our coverage area (Wilmette, Winnetka, Northfield, Kenilworth and Glencoe) during the week of Sunday-Saturday, July 18-24.
WILMETTE
There were two incidents of Illinois Department of Employment Services — later referred to as IDES — fraud filed between July 9-16 in Wilmette.
July 21
• A catalytic converter was reportedly stolen from a vehicle at Mather Place, 2801 Old Glenview Road.
• A resident allegedly followed fraudulent emailed instructions to purchase Target gift cards, worth $475, in a fake PayPal scam.
July 20
• A piece of paper was reportedly glued to the window of a vehicle in the 400 block of Linden Street.
July 19
• An individual reportedly received a text message purporting to be from the Illinois Secretary of State asking the victim to click on a link to renew his license, in which he did, then provided personal information.
• A fraudulent savings account was reportedly opened in a resident’s name.
July 18
• The rear side window of a vehicle was broken in the 800 block of Hibbard Road.
July 16
• A locked Trek bicycle was reportedly stolen from the Community Rec Center, 2300 Old Glenview Road.
July 13
• A humidor and cigars were reported stolen overnight from Westmoreland Country Club, 2601 Old Glenview Road.
KENILWORTH
July 16
• Fraudulent accounts were opened with a resident’s information at Consumer Cellular and Verizon Wireless. There is no reported loss.
WINNETKA
There was one report of IDES fraud filed between July 14 in Winnetka.
July 19
• Two street signs were discovered missing from their posts at Ravine and Sheridan roads. Replacement costs are $600.
July 18
• Between July 5-17, unknown offender(s) reportedly damaged a lock and stole a bike secured to a parking structure at 1050 Scott Ave.
July 15
• Unknown offender(s) accessed a resident’s savings account and cashed fraudulent checks, worth more than $5,000, overnight July 14-15 without authorization.
July 13
• A vehicle was scratched while parked overnight in a driveway in the 800 block of Boal Parkway.
July 12
• Collectibles and sterling silver were discovered missing between Jan. 1-June 12 from a residence in the 700 block of Bryant Avenue. The amount of loss is worth more than $5,000.
July 9
• An unlocked bike, worth $175, was stolen from a bike rack between June 24-July 9 at New Trier High School, 385 Winnetka Ave.
GLENCOE
July 21
• A resident’s car was reportedly stolen overnight July 20-21 in the 100 Block of Glade Road. It is unknown if the victim locked their vehicle or left the key fob inside. An investigation is pending.
July 17
• An unknown offender used a victim’s credit card number to make unlawful charges to purchase Apple gift cards between July 8-17.
July 15
• A resident reportedly gave their personal identifying information to an unknown caller who claimed to represent the Secretary of State. There is no reported loss at this time.
July 14
• Food was smeared on a business’ window in the 600 block of Vernon Avenue. There was no reported damage or information regarding a suspect.
NORTHFIELD
July 14
• A resident burglary occurred between 11:30 a.m.-4:25 p.m. in the 200 block of Latrobe. Several pieces of jewelry were reported missing. The case is under investigation.
July 13
• A resident reported that in several instances in the previous months, they found nails in their driveway near where their vehicles are parked in the 500 block of North Happ Road.
July 12
• Around 3:30 p.m., a resident reported several male subjects in safety vests rang her doorbell, indicated that they were trimming trees in the backyard and asked the resident to come to the yard with them in the 800 block of North Happ Road. A short time later, the subjects abruptly left. There was no indication that anything at the residence was missing or disturbed.
