The Flower Shop in Glencoe thanks customers with ‘floral bomb’
To thank her customers for support throughout a difficult time during the pandemic, The Flower Shop in Glencoe’s owner Brooke Lawler did it the only way she knew how — with flowers.
Lawler set up a large public floral installation — which she dubbed a “floral bomb” — outside her downtown Glencoe shop on Saturday, April 10. It was accompanied with a colorful balloon display from Balloons by Tommy, and those who tagged the shop in pictures on social media entered to win a print by artist Ann Latinovich.
“It’s a thank you to the North Shore for the support over the last year,” Lawler told The Record.
Lawler elaborated further on the sentiment with a social media post following the installation day, describing what her flower shop had endured over the past year.
In part, she describes March 21, 2020, the day she closed her shop due to COVID-19: “Our last day in the shop. I cried. For days. I just remember thinking what a mess this was all becoming. It was bad.”
A month later, she shared in the post that the business began taking orders again after “having all of our clients lose their weddings and all our events had been canceled.”
“And then you all blew us away,” she says in the post. “It seems, you had really missed us. And you wanted us to know it. You sent flowers to your friends. And your parents. And neighbors. You will never know how much this all means to such an incredibly small business.”
Lawler told The Record she doesn’t have any immediate plans for a future installation at this time; however, the shop has been known to surprise downtown Glencoe passersby with previous flower and balloon displays covering the shop’s windows and arching over the awnings to celebrate Pride Day, Valentine’s Day and other special occasions.
