UPDATE: Call centers reopen Monday for New Trier vaccine clinic; township residents 65+ and category 1b+ are eligible

UPDATE 10 A.M. SUNDAY, MARCH 21: Call centers will reopen Monday, March 22, to book a vaccine appointment March 23 (first dose) and April 20 (second dose) at New Trier High School’s Northfield campus. New Trier Township residents who are 65 years of age of older or individuals in category 1b+ are eligible.

Residents of five New Trier Township towns — Glencoe, Winnetka, Northfield, Wilmette and Kenilworth — who are 65 years of age or older soon have the chance to receive a COVID-19 vaccine locally.

Local officials announced Thursday, March 18, that doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine will be administered at New Trier High School’s Northfield campus on Tuesday, March 23. The second dose will be given on Tuesday, April 20.

Appointments can be made from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, March 19, by calling the following phone numbers:

Officials said approximately 1,100 doses are available.

According to a press release announcing the vaccination clinic, appointments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

There is no online option to sign up for appointments, officials said. Callers will receive an automated message once appointments are filled.

To be eligible to receive the vaccine, residents must present a valid driver’s license, which proves residency in one of the five towns, and an insurance card at the vaccination site.

Following successful registration, residents will receive an email with authorization documents that should be completed and brought with them to the site, officials said.

Per the release, residents signing up for the vaccinations must be available on both dates (March 23 and April 20) and able to provide transportation to and from the site.

The vaccination site is being provided by Cook County and Albertsons/Jewel Osco, according to the release. It is hosted by New Trier High School and will be staffed by employees of the five participating municipalities.

The announcement of the sites comes one day after Suburban Cook County said it is expanding vaccine access to those in Phase 1b+ starting Monday, March 22.

Additionally, starting immediately, all eligible Illinois residents can now sign up for and try for an appointment at one of the state-sponsored Cook County sites, and starting Monday, suburban Cook County residents who qualify under Phase 1b+ can join them in doing so.

The county also announced Thursday that the number of fully vaccinated Cook County residents now surpasses the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the county.

A release announcing that states a total of 239,327 people, or 10.5 percent of the Cook County population, have received both doses of the vaccine. That number eclipses the 217,753 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county.

As previously reported by The Record, New Trier’s Northfield campus has on multiple occasions already vaccinated hundreds of essential workers.

Officials have long expressed interest in making the site available to locals also.
