Police Reports: Another stolen vehicle recovered in Chicago, break-in, more

These reports were pulled from police summaries provided by departments in our coverage area (Wilmette, Winnetka, Northfield, Kenilworth and Glencoe) during the week of Sunday-Saturday, Feb. 14-20.

Wilmette:

There were 20 incidents of Illinois Department of Employment Services — later referred to as IDES — fraud filed between Feb. 12-19 in Wilmette.

Feb. 15

• Force was reportedly used to break into a home between Feb. 13-15 in the 2300 block of Greenwood Avenue.

Feb. 12

• A purse was reported stolen at Rose Hall Montessori, 1140 Wilmette Ave.

Kenilworth:

There was one incident of IDES fraud filed on Feb. 13 in Kenilworth.

Feb. 16

• An unattended, unlocked vehicle that was warming up in a driveway in the 200 block of Warwick Road was reported stolen at 5:30 p.m. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Chicago.

Winnetka:

There were eight incidents of IDES fraud filed through Feb. 12 in Winnetka.

Feb. 9

• A victim’s Visa Chase credit card was accessed to make several fraudulent purchases worth $5,539 without authorization. Another similar incident was reported Feb. 6, when reportedly an unknown offender spent $3,500 from another victim’s account.

Glencoe:

There were six incidents of IDES fraud filed between Feb. 11-16 in Glencoe.

Feb. 12

• Reportedly, an unknown offender(s) attempted to coerce a victim into paying money to prevent them from posting compromising photos on the internet. A similar incident was reported Feb. 11. In both cases, the victims reportedly did not pay and suffered no loss.

Northfield:

Feb. 11

• A resident received a suspicious letter from an inmate at an out-of-state correctional institution. The complainant didn’t know the subject who wrote the letter, police told The Record. The case is under investigation.

Feb. 9

• A Mariano’s employee received a threatening phone call from an upset customer at 9:39 p.m. at the store, 1822 Willow Road. At the request of store staff, officers contacted the customer and advised them Mariano’s management asked they stop calling the store.  The customer agreed to stop. Police cannot comment further as the case is under investigation.
