Police Reports: Residential burglary, stolen liquor more

These reports were pulled from police summaries provided by departments in our coverage area (Wilmette, Winnetka, Northfield, Kenilworth and Glencoe) during the week of Sunday-Saturday, Feb. 1-7.

Wilmette:

There were 47 incidents of Illinois Department of Employment Services — later referred to as IDES — fraud filed between Jan. 29-Feb. 5 in Wilmette.

Feb. 1

• A resident reportedly received a debit card in the mail that she did not request. Another resident reported unauthorized charges on his credit card.

Jan. 29

• Alcohol was reported stolen at 7:30 p.m. at Jewel, 411 Green Bay Road. The unknown offender left the scene before police arrived.

Kenilworth:

There were 5 incidents of IDES fraud filed between Jan. 22-29 in Kenilworth.

Winnetka:

There were 29 incidents of IDES fraud filed through Jan. 30 in Winnetka.

Jan. 29

• An unlocked bike, worth $500, was reportedly stolen between 2:30-6:45 p.m. from the bike rack at Hubbard Woods’ train station, 1065 Gage St.

Jan. 27

• A victim’s personal identifiers were used to open multiple TCF Bank accounts between Nov. 23-Dec. 7. There is no reported loss.

• A package worth $200 was reportedly stolen between 3:07-5 p.m. from a front porch in the 1200 block of Cherry Street.

Jan. 20

• An unknown offender used a victim’s information to apply for a Barclay credit card. There is no reported loss.

Jan. 17

• A victim’s personal identifiers were used to open several credit card accounts and make purchases totaling to $2,960. Several other attempts were also made to apply for additional store accounts but were unsuccessful.

Glencoe:

There were 13 incidents of IDES fraud filed between Jan. 28-Feb. 2 in Glencoe.

Jan. 28

• A Small Business Administration loan was applied for using a resident’s information. The victim suffered no financial loss.

• Justin Joey Ephraim, 19, of Lyons, was arrested for theft by deception at 10:30 a.m. at his home. The arrest was made after he allegedly collected a 50 percent deposit for tuckpointing work from two residents on Pebblewood Lane, but never returned to start work, according to Glencoe Police. While surveilling his home before the arrest, police observed the offender’s father, Jorge Molina, 46, of Lyons, who assisted in the above two cases, exit his residence. Molina had an outstanding warrant on an unrelated case for home repair fraud and was arrested.

Northfield:

There were 12 incidents of IDES fraud filed between Jan. 25-30 in Northfield.

Jan. 29

• Officers responded to a retail theft report at 6:07 p.m. at Mariano’s, 1822 Willow Road, where suspects allegedly left the store with approximately $900 worth of alcohol. The suspects abandoned the shopping cart and items in the parking lot before fleeing the scene.

Jan. 28

• A residential burglary was reported at 5:33 p.m. in the 2200 block of Bracken Lane. Several pieces of jewelry were stolen, according to police. The case is under investigation.

Jan. 27

• There was an unauthorized attempt to file for unemployment with a resident’s information in the State of Ohio.
