Local school board member charged with DUI
A Kenilworth elected official was arrested earlier this month for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a Wilmette police report.
Stephen Potter, who is in his second term on the Kenilworth District 38 Board of Education, was charged with DUI following a traffic stop at approximately 11 p.m. on Dec. 3 in the 2100 block of Wilmette Avenue, the report says.
Potter reportedly was driving with an expired registration and a non-working headlight, leading to the traffic stop.
According to the report, Potter participated in field sobriety tests prior to his arrest but refused breath tests on the scene and at the police station. The report identifies the effect of alcohol on Potter as “obvious,” the designation between “extreme” and “slight.”
Potter was first elected to the District 38 School Board in 2017 and was re-elected in 2021. His term will expire in 2025.
Potter declined to comment on the incident.
