Interfaith service scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 26

The New Trier Multifaith Alliance will host its annual Interfaith Gratitude Service at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The service, a tradition in the community, will take place at Christ Church Winnetka, 784 Sheridan Road.

According to a release from the alliance, this year’s service emphasizes gratitude and inclusivity, featuring choral music, prayers, blessings and readings from various world religions, including Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and the Bahá’í faith.

In a nod to respect and acknowledge the contributions of Native American Indigenous communities, the service has been retitled “Gratitude” for the first time.

The Haudenosaunee Confederacy of Nations, represented by Kim Vigue, executive director of Evanston’s Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, will give a special Thanksgiving address to start the program.

Steve Sarowitz, founder and chairman of Paylocity, filmmaker, and humanitarian, will deliver the keynote address. Sarowitz was also a plenary speaker at the 2023 Parliament of the World’s Religions held in Chicago.

While focusing on expressing gratitude during the holiday season, the service will also acknowledge the ongoing challenges and suffering faced by many worldwide. The gathering will culminate in a collective prayer for healing and peace.

A light reception, open to friends, family, and neighbors, will follow the service. No registration is required. Parking is available on the street by Christ Church Winnetka and Lloyd Park at 799 Sheridan Road.

The service will also be livestreamed and will be available on the Christ Church Winnetka YouTube channel after the event.
