News Briefs: Jersey Mike’s opens this week in Wilmette; Purple line to close for weekend; Blood drive this Wednesday
Jersey Mike’s Subs will make its anticipated Wilmette debut on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 3207 Lake Ave., in the West Edens shopping center.
The sandwich chain, which received local approval in March, will celebrate the opening by participating in a fundraiser between Nov. 6-10 for the New Trier Booster Club. Guests who have received a special coupon (the coupons reportedly have been recently passed out in the community) will get a regular sub in exchange for a donation of at least $3.
Jersey Mike’s is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. seven days a week and orders can be made in person and online through the Jersey Mike’s website or its app.
Maintenance work to temporarily shut down purple line
The CTA’s Purple Line will close for four days, Nov. 8-11, starting later this week due to maintenance work on the line.
The Purple Line provides train travel from the Linden Avenue station in Wilmette to Howard Street in Chicago.
Shuttle service will be available to replace rail service between Linden and Howard, according to the CTA. The buses will make stops near Dempster, Foster and Noyes stations and direct stops at South Boulevard, Main, Davis, Central and Linden stations.
Blood drive on Wednesday
Wilmette and Winnetka fire departments are joining forces for a blood drive from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Wilmette Fire station at 1304 Lake Ave.
The event will be put on by Vitalant. To create an appointment, visit its website and use the code ORD0132D or call (847) 258-4825 to schedule your appointment to donate blood.
Participants will receive a coupon for a 16-ounce drip coffee or pastry for Central Station Coffee and Tea in Wilmette and will be entered into a chance to win one of three $10,000 gift cards.
Organizers encourage donors to eat well and hydrate prior to donation. Walk-ins will be welcome.
