High School Highlights: New Trier, Loyola earn regional volleyball titles; Trevians trotters win playoff races

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
New Trier 25-25, Niles West 18-13
The Trevians bested the Wolves in straight sets to claim a regional championship on Thursday, Oct. 31, at Niles North High School.
Loyola 25-25, Evanston 12-9
Grace Kreutz and Addie Leadbetter recorded 6 kills apiece to lead the Ramblers to a regional championship on Thursday, Oct. 31, in Wilmette.
Ellen Gundlach chipped in 5 kills and 2 blocks and Julia York 11 assists for Loyola.
Aurora Central Catholic 25-25, Regina Dominican 22-14
The Panthers fell in a regional semifinal on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Wilmette. Regina’s final record is 15-13.
Regina Dominican 25-25, Sullivan 8-2
Peyton Bertsch finished with 8 kills and 10 aces in the Panthers’ regional win on Monday, Oct. 28.
Jillian DeFranza added 6 aces and Erin Daly 5 kills for Regina.
BOYS SOCCER
Maine South 1, New Trier 0
The Hawks ended the Trevians attempt for a second straight state championship on Friday, Oct. 25, in the regional finale.
CROSS-COUNTRY
IHSA Glenbrook South Regional
Ben Crane (15 minutes, 7.83 seconds) and Josie Cahill (17:57.35), both New Trier seniors, won the boys and girls races, respectively, on Saturday, Oct. 26, in Glenview.
Walter Garrett placed fourth and Jordan Kreiner eighth for the Trevians, who won the boys regional as a team ahead of Prospect and Evanston.
Dylan Dominguez (15:29.96) finished third to lead Highland Park to fourth in the team standings, while teammates Lucas Hoobler and Henry Gamson took 11th and 15th respectively.
Kayla Ritchie placed third for the Trevian girls as they placed third as a team behind Prospect and Glenbrook North. Margaret Canmann added a 16th-place finish for New Trier.
Jane Lynch, of Loyola Academy, was sixth across the finish line, and fellow Rambler Katie Mueller 19th.
