Plowasaurus Rex ready to terrorize Glencoe streets this winter
Glencoe’s new snow plow is a monster, and it’s all thanks to visitors to the village’s annual Touch A Truck event on Saturday, Oct. 5, near Village Hall.
For the first time, the Village let the community name one of its vehicles. And the community chomped at the opportunity, naming the snow plow Plowasaurus Rex.
Plowasaurus Rex will be hard at work this winter with its new name written across the vehicle’s blade, said Sammy Hanzel, the village’s communications director.
Hanzel said the “Name the Plow” contest was the idea of the Public Works Department, which reportedly had seen similar contests in neighboring towns.
Chicago held a similar contest in 2022 to much fanfare, with winning entries like Mrs. O’ Leary’s Plow and Salter Payton. In 2023, CTRL-SALT-DELETE was among the winners. Plenty of other U.S. towns and cities have run similar contests with popular winners including Scoop Dogg and Truck Norris.
In Glencoe, participants could pick from one of ten entries: Taylor Drift, Fast and Flurrious, Barbie’s Dream Plow, Clark Blizzwald, Dolly Plowton, Plowy McPlowface, Scoop Dogg, Clearopathra, Sled Zeppelin and Plowasaurus Rex.
Finishing just behind Plowasaurus Rex were Taylor Drift and Plowy McPlowface.
Hanzel said the Village plans to hold another naming event next year for a different vehicle in its fleet.
The Touch-A-Truck event is an opportunity for families to view and interact with public vehicles, such as police cars, fire trucks, buses, plows, and even construction vehicles.
