Police Reports: 5 illegal firearm magazines found in warranted search; 2 cars stolen from Winnetka driveway

The following reports were pulled from the latest police summaries provided by departments in our coverage area (Wilmette, Winnetka, Highland Park, Northfield, Kenilworth and Glencoe).

HIGHLAND PARK

July 30

• A Highland Park man was arrested for allegedly possessing illegal large-capacity ammunition magazines. According to the City of Highland Park, local police served a search warrant based on an emergency firearms restraining order acquired by a complainant who feared for their safety. During the execution of the warrant, police did not recover firearms but did find and confiscate five illegal magazines that hold in excess of 10 rounds apiece, the City said. Three of the recovered magazines hold 7.62-by-39-millimeter ammunition, a projectile commonly associated with the AK-47 rifle and other assault-style rifles. The Highland Park Police Department, however, could not confirm for which kind of firearm the magazines were meant. The other two recovered magazines hold 9-millimeter and .22 caliber cartridges, respectively. The arrested individual did not possess valid firearms owners identification, according to the arrest report.

• More than $20,000 worth of jewelry reportedly was stolen between January-July from a home in the 600 block of Mulberry Place.

Aug. 7

• A wallet reportedly was stolen from a purse inside an unlocked office at the Highland Park Public Library, 494 Laurel Ave.

Aug. 6

• Merchandise valued at $143 reportedly was stolen from Target, 2099 Skokie Valley Road.

• Items in a package valued at $6,600 reportedly were stolen prior to their arrival.

• An unlocked bicycle reportedly was stolen from a bike rack at Sunset Foods, 1812 Green Bay Road.

Aug. 5

• A food delivery valued at $123 reportedly was stolen from a property in the 1800 block of Green Bay Road.

WILMETTE

Aug. 9

• A bicycle reportedly was stolen from a bike rack at the CTA station in Linden Square in the 300 block of Linden Avenue.

Aug. 8

• Approximately $20,000 reportedly was taken from a resident’s bank account using fraudulent checks.

Aug. 7

• A locked bicycle reportedly was stolen from a bike rack at the CTA station in Linden Square in the 300 block of Linden Avenue.

WINNETKA

Aug. 7

• Two unlocked cars reportedly were stolen between 8:25-11:26 p.m. from a driveway in the 900 block of Sheridan Road.

Aug. 6

• A resident reportedly was scammed out of more than $5,000 when a person purporting to be online support requested a deposit into a digital Bitcoin machine.

GLENCOE

Aug. 5

• A bicycle and bike helmet reportedly were stolen overnight from Lakefront Park, 55 Hazel Ave.

NORTHFIELD

Aug. 8

• A local business reportedly was scammed out of $45,000 when an employee mistakenly sent the funds to an individual purporting to be a bank employee.

KENILWORTH

No reported incidents between Aug. 2-8
