Police Reports: WPD warns of residential burglaries, seeks video footage; physical altercations occur in Northfield

The following reports were pulled from the latest police summaries provided by departments in our coverage area (Wilmette, Winnetka, Highland Park, Northfield, Kenilworth and Glencoe).

WILMETTE

Aug. 5

• The Wilmette Police Department sent a message to the community regarding three recent home burglaries: July 19 in the 500 block of Washington Avenue, July 29 in the 1200 block of Richmond Lane and Aug. 5 in the 1100 block of Elmwood Avenue (see below). In all three incidents, entrance was made via unlocked doors. Police are asking for public assistance in the investigation, seeking surveillance videos from nearby homes, which can be sent to Detective Jeff Kutschke, who can be reached at kutschkej@wilmette.com or (847) 920-3548.

“Overnight residential burglaries are not a frequent crime in our community and these types of incidents serve as a reminder for residents to lock the doors of their residences and vehicles and ensure that proper lighting, alarm, and surveillance systems are operational,” the crime alert says.

• Two laptops reportedly were stolen overnight from a home in the 1100 block of Elmwood Avenue.

Aug. 2

• A mailed check reportedly was stolen, altered and cashed for $4,954.

July 31

• A bottle of liquor reportedly was stolen at 4:12 p.m. from Jewel, 1515 Sheridan Road.

• A locked bicycle reportedly was stolen from a bike rack at the Metra lot in the 700 block of Green Bay Road.

July 30

• A resident reportedly was scammed out of $70,000 in cryptocurrency after responding to an unsolicited ad.

• A resident reportedly was scammed out of $8,000 in cryptocurrency by a caller purporting to be with a police department.

• A resident reportedly was scammed out of $5,800 by a caller purporting to be with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and threatening arrest.

• A package reportedly was stolen from the front porch of a home in the 800 block of Hibbard Road.

July 29

• A laptop reportedly was stolen at approximately 3 a.m. from an unlocked home in the 1200 block of Richmond Lane.

WINNETKA

Aug. 3

• Two cement areas along the Green Bay Trail reportedly were vandalized with spray paint.

Aug. 2

• An unlocked bicycle reportedly was stolen between 6:35-6:44 p.m. from a bike rack in the 500 block of Chestnut Street.

GLENCOE

No reported incidents that meet The Record’s standards for publication.

HIGHLAND PARK

Aug. 1

• A resident reportedly was scammed out of $570 after being asked to purchase gift cards and transfer the information.

NORTHFIELD

Aug. 2

• An individual reportedly was the subject of a battery at Stormy’s Tavern, 1735 Orchard Lane.

July 30

• Approximately $40,000 reportedly was stolen from a local business after its bank account was fraudulently accessed.

July 29

• Officers responded to several subjects involved in a fight in the 1600 block of Willow Road. No arrests or injuries were reported.

KENILWORTH

No reported incidents between July 26-Aug. 2
