The event calendar is packed with Halloween activities to help you celebrate the October holiday. From library crafts and costumed skates to plenty of family-friendly tricks and treats, we have collected info on close to 30 spooktacular events in the area.

Night of 1,000 Jack-O-Lanterns (SOLD OUT)
When: 6:30-10:30 p.m. Oct. 11-15 and 18-22
Where: Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road
Details: More than 1,000 carved pumpkins will be on display along a paved path that will included costumed entertainers, live carving demos and more over the two-week stretch. More Information.

Jack-O-Lantern Workshop
When: 10:30 a.m.-noon Oct. 15-29
Where: Chalet Nursery, 3132 Lake Ave., Wilmette
Details: Visit the garden to create a pumpkin masterpiece for your doorstep. Registration is required. Cost: $14.99. More information and to register.

Wilmette Children’s Theater’s ‘The Addams Family: young@part’
When: 7 p.m. Oct. 20 and 27; 2 p.m. Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29
Where: Community Recreation Center, 3000 Glenview Road, Wilmette
Details: Enjoy the children’s theater’s spooky fall production. Tickets: $12. More information and to purchase tickets.

The Haunted Page
When: 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20
Where: Wilmette Public Library, 1242 Wilmette Ave.
Details: A highly interactive night of spooky stories and thrilling magic. More information and to register.

Pumpkins in the Woods
When: 4-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20
Where: Hubbard Woods Park, 939 Old Green Bay Road, Winnetka
Details: The park will become a pumpkin patch surrounding by carnival games, bounce houses and a DJ. There will be a costume contest and pumpkin decorating, as well. Pumpkins may be purchased at the event. More information and to register.

Mini Pumpkin Decorating
When: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (4 sessions) on Saturday, Oct. 21
Where: Winnetka Public Library, 768 Oak St., and Northfield Library, 1785 Orchard Lane
Details: Use stickers, gems, and other craft materials to decorate mini pumpkins. More information and to register.

Wicked Wilmette
When: 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21
Where: Hibbard Park, 3000 Glenview Road, Wilmette
Details: Family-friendly occasion with inflatables, face painting, magic shows, a hay maze, pumpkin patch and more. Visit each of the Spooky Stations scattered throughout the park to collect various giveaways and treats. La Cocinita will be on site with food available for purchase. Ages 10 and under. Halloween Hoopla
When: 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22
Where: Wilmette Historical Museum, 609 Ridge Road
Details: For some not-so-scary Halloween fun, families with children 10 and under are welcome to come in their family-friendly costumes (no props or weapons, please) to enjoy fun crafts and games, embark on a scavenger hunt to win prizes, snack on sweet treats, and learn more about the history of Halloween. Tickets: free for members, $5 per family for nonmembers. More information and to register.

Spooky Series – Creepy Cottage
When: 9 a.m. until supplies last, Monday, Oct. 23
Where: Winnetka Public Library, 768 Oak St.
Details: Take-and-make crafts available to pick up in Youth Services. No registration required.

Edible Haunted Houses (At Capacity)
When: 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25
Where: Northfield Public Library, 1785 Orchard Lane
Details: Come celebrate spooky season making a haunted house out of cereal treats, frosting and candy. Materials provided. More information and to register.

Highland Park Candy Stroll
When: 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26
Where: Downtown Highland Park
Details: Start at First Bank of Highland Park, 1835 1st St., to grab your bucket and go business to business collecting tricks and treats. Enjoy a dog costume contest, live music, face painting, balloon artistry and more.

Boo Bash (Glencoe)
When: 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27
Where: Takiff Center, 999 Green Bay Road, Glencoe
Details: Navigate eerie sights and sounds throughout the Takiff Center, where costumed children can trick or treat and enjoy shows, special activities and other surprises. Recommended for ages 2-8 with an adult. Cost: $17. More information and to register.

Jack-O-Lantern Geocache (At capacity)
When: 6-7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27
Where: Heller Nature Center, 2821 Ridge Road
Details: Go from glowing pumpkin to glowing pumpkin, discovering clues and candy with your trusted GPS. Solve the riddles and make it to the end to receive a spooky prize. Cost: $12. More information and waitlist.

Scary Skate
When: 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27
Where: Centennial Ice Arena, 3100 Trail Way, Highland Park
Details: Wear a Halloween costume and skate with family and friends. Costumed skaters skate for free. No registration required.

Halloween Costume Contest
When: Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 28-29
Where: Chalet Nursery, 3132 Lake Ave., Wilmette
Details: Visit the store dressed in your Halloween best and get your photo taken to enter the contest. The photos will be posted to social media on Oct. 30-31 for a voting contest with winners ($50 gift card) selected in five categories: Scariest, Most Creative, Best Group, Funniest and Best Pet.

Not So Spooky Halloween Sensory Happenings
When: All day Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 28-29
Where: Winnetka Public Library, 768 Oak St.
Details: Pumpkin hopscotch, creepy boxes to put your hand in, and more. A fun (and not too frightening) time. More information (no registration required).

Scary Halloween Miniature Golf
When: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 28-29
Where: River’s Edge Mini Golf, 2205 Skokie Valley Road
Details: Dress in costume and receive a discount.

Harvest Hayride
When: 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28
Where: Lloyd Park, 899 Sheridan Road, Winnetka
Details: A harvest-themed hay ride. Pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch or play in the bouncy houses. Candy will be passed out. Registration closes Monday, Oct. 23. More information and to register.

Halloween Railroad
When: 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28
Where: Highland Park Public Library, 494 Laurel Ave.
Details: Watch model tails travel through Spookytown. The special tracks also feature Thomas along with Percy and Diesel. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Linden Square Pumpkin Walk
When: 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 28
Where: 4th Street and Linden Avenue, Wilmette
Details: Free family event for trick or treating at local businesses, as well as a petting zoo, live entertainment, dance performances, giveaways and more.

Spooky Skate
When: 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28
Where: Centennial Ice Rinks, 2300 Old Glenview Road, Wilmette
Details: Wear your costume and get a discount on the daily rate and enjoy games and more. In-costume is $5 admission while children ages 5 and under are free.

Halloween Party on Ice
When: 2-3:20 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28-29
Where: Winnetka Ice Arena, 490 Hibbard Road
Details: Come in costume and take a few laps while enjoying Halloween music. No complete face masks. Admission is $2 per skater. Skate rental: $4.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Library
When: 4-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30
Where: Highland Park Public Library, 494 Laurel Ave.
Details: Listen to a selection of librarians’ favorite short stories, or sign up to tell a scary encounter of your own. Registration required. More information and to register.

Halloween Magic Show (At capacity)
When: 4-4:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30

Details: Magician and children’s entertainer Morris Taylor has performed all over the world. A spooktacular show sure to leave you howling with laughter. More information.

Halloween Dungeons and Dragons (At capacity)

Where: Winnetka Public Library, 768 Oak St.
Details: A spooky game of Dungeons and Dragons. Bring a level 5 character or use a premade one. More information.

The Great Pumpkin Smash
When: 4-6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3
Where: The Preserve of Highland Park, 1207 Park Avenue West
Details: Say goodbye to your pumpkins in a sustainable way. Smash the pumpkins, toss them at targets and more in this environmentally friendly event.

Dia De Los Muertos
When: 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4
Where: Recreation Center of Highland Park, 1207 Park Avenue West
