NTHS alumnus allegedly stabbed father to death in Glenview, authorities say

A former New Trier High School student is accused of murdering his father during an argument on Monday, Aug. 14.

Authorities charged Isaac J. Thurston, 20, of Glenview, with the crime after he allegedly stabbed his dad, Perron Thurston, 50, with a kitchen knife around 6:30 a.m. Monday in the family’s home on Arbor Lane — south of Lake Avenue and west of Laramie Avenue in Glenview.

Isaac Thurston graduated New Trier High School in 2021, the school confirmed. The home on Arbor Lane is within the high school’s district.

Perron Thurston was pronounced dead at Lutheran General Hospital, according to the Glenview Police Department. He leaves behind a wife, Debra, and a second son, Eli, as well as brothers and other family members, according to his obituary.

The fatal stabbing occurred following a morning dispute between the father and son, a county prosecutor told the court on Tuesday, Aug. 15, according to several media reports, including the Chicago Tribune’s.

The prosecution alleges that during the argument Isaac Thurston picked up a knife that was in the kitchen and stabbed his father once in his side.

When police arrived, Isaac Thurston reportedly told them, “I don’t know why I did it,” and “I am a murderer,” according to the prosecution.
