Staying true to the axiom, March weather will be like a lion starting Friday as a snow-powered winter storm is on its way.

A winter storm watch is in effect from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, March 3, in the northern suburbs, according to a National Weather Service report, which adds that wet and sticky snow could fall at a rate of 1 inch per hour during that time with an estimated accumulation of 4-6 inches.

Wind gusts could reach 45 mph, as well, according to the report, which warns the gusts and snow may cause power outages. Temperatures are expected to range from 33-38 degrees on the high end and 25-29 in the evening.

The snowfall and winds are expected to impact evening commutes on Friday.

The service warned an “unusual amount of uncertainty” around the storm’s path remained on Thursday afternoon. The storm could shift to a more northern track; however, it would still cover the New Trier Township area.
