News Briefs: Kenilworth seeks business-district opinions; Regina Dominican honors Sister Donna Markham; Wilmette crossing to temporarily close

The Village of Kenilworth is asking for the thoughts of residents, business owners and others for a survey on what’s next for the town’s Green Bay Road business corridor.

Village officials have prioritized the revitalization of the area. In 2021, focus groups were held to collect feedback, and now a communitywide survey is open to “both test the focus group findings and explore the types of businesses sought by residents.”

The survey is open until Friday, March 18, and the results will be presented at the Kenilworth Village Board meeting on March 21, according to information provided by the village.

Regina Dominican High School welcomed about 200 friends and supporters to its 32nd annual Black & White Gala on March 5 at Wintrust Grand Banking Hall in Chicago.

The Wilmette school raised about $320,000 while honoring Donna Markham, the first woman CEO and president of Chicago Catholic Charities. Markham is a 1964 graduate of Regina Dominican and received the Regina Caeli Award, which recognizes individuals for their support of the school’s mission.

According to a release from Regina, Markham is a certified psychologist who transformed the delivery of behavioral healthcare all over.

“Sister Donna exemplifies what we aspire to be and who we want our students to look up to,” said Elizabeth Schuster, president of Regina Dominican High School, in the release. “Her deep Catholic roots and commitment to serving the marginalized is a testament to the foundation she received as a student at Regina Dominican and then as a Sister of the Adrian Dominican order.”

Of the fundraising total, $120,000 funds scholarships for Regina Dominican Scholars.

The railroad crossing at Lake Avenue and Green Bay Road in Wilmette will be closed for repairs from 6 p.m. Friday, March 18, to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 20, according to information from the Village of Wilmette.

Signage will alert traffic of detours around the work area.

“The closure is required for the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) to complete necessary repairs to its infrastructure at that crossing,” says a message from the Village.
