Another snow event expected to begin Tuesday evening, snarl Wednesday’s commutes

Residents won’t have much downtime to rest any snow-clearing aches with more accumulation expected starting Tuesday evening, Feb. 1.

The burden, however, should not be as heavy as Friday, according to the National Weather Service, when 10 inches of accumulation was reported in Wilmette.

Up to 5 inches of snowfall is expected in northern Cook County communities, such as Wilmette and Winnetka, from 8 p.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, according to a winter weather advisory from the NWS.

More significant accumulation is expected south of the city.

The service is predicting the event will disrupt commutes on Wednesday morning and evening as well as Thursday morning, Feb. 3, when snow is expected to continue to a lesser extent.

While the weather advisory covers Wednesday, a “hazardous weather outlook” spans the weekend as the NWS is predicting the snow to transition into severe cold Thursday afternoon.

Temperature highs on Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 5, are expected to be in the 20s in the day with lows in the teens in the evening.
