
News Briefs: Loyola celebrates hall of fame class; Winnetka selects Green Awards winners; Booster Benefit on Friday
Loyola Academy inducted 13 individuals and five teams into its Athletic Hall of Fame with a ceremony on April 12 in the Wilmette school’s east gym.
“We extend a special thank you to the members of the Hall of Fame Committee for their tireless work to make this year’s Hall of Fame one of our greatest,” says a press release from the school.
In addition to the hall-of-fame honors, two other annual awards were issued. The Frank J. Amato Excellence in Coaching Award was given to Lionel Ebeling, Loyola’s boys volleyball coach who recently eclipsed 500 career victories. And the John E. Hoerster Athletic Medal of Honor went to Stacy and Pat Fitzgerald, the former Northwestern University football coach. The Hoerster award is presented to friends of Loyola Academy who support the athletics programs.

• Eileen F. Weissmann (2006), basketball

• 2000 girls rowing (varsity 8 boat)
• 2002 girls rowing (varsity 8 boat)

Winnetka passes out Green Awards
Winnetka’s Environmental and Forestry Commission recently named the recipients of its annual Green Awards, recognizing “individuals and businesses within the community that demonstrate exceptional commitment to sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices,” according to village documents.
This year the commission acknowledged the winners at the April 15 meeting of the Village Council.
• Sustainable Residential Yard: Christina and Michael Collins, of 807 Burr Ave.
• Sustainable Residential Home: Erik Kaplan, of 870 Locust St.
• Sustainable Non-Residential: April Potterfield for her Backyard Flower Lab, which is devoted to growing flowers for donation to deserving causes and donating produce to local food pantries.
Booster Club fundraiser set for Friday, April 25
The New Trier Booster Club is hosting its annual benefit — this year called Taste of the North Shore — on Friday, April 25, at the Woman’s Club of Wilmette.
The evening will feature tastes from New Trier-area restaurants such as Torino, Fondita Miguel, Marco Roma’s, Fred’s Garage, Fajita Pete’s and Jersey Mike’s, as well as drinks, music, a silent auction and more.
All proceeds benefit the booster club, which supports New Trier High School athletics and intramurals.
Tickets, which are available online, are $125 and include food and drinks, which will be served by Trevian coaches.
