One Northfield Village Board spot too close to call on election night

The race for a third Village of Northfield trustee won’t be decided just yet.

Incumbent Matthew Galin (914 votes) and caucus-slate mate Andrew Juedes (884) are firmly ahead in the four-candidate field; however, Pamela Papadatos (804) holds just a six-vote edge on caucus-endorsed Edwin Elfmann (798) with all five of the village’s precincts reporting, according to unofficial results from the Cook County Clerk’s Office.

The results consist of Election Day, early-voting and counted mail-in ballots, but do not include mail-in ballots arriving after Election Day or provisional ballots.

Papadatos, who championed the business community in her campaign, said while she will need to be patient, either way, she is proud of her campaign.

“I’m extremely proud to run a very clean race and campaign and greatly appreciative of all the supporters,” she said.

She also celebrated the voter turnout, which topped 30% in Northfield.

“We had a great turnout,” she said. “So that was really impressive. We had a feeling with how strong the caucus was there would be a big turnout but never thought this.”

Galin, who secured the most votes, declined to comment.
