Riverwoods man killed in Northfield motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist was killed Friday evening in a traffic crash in Northfield, according to information from the Northfield Police Department.

The department says it responded to a single-vehicle crash at approximately 10:20 p.m. Friday, March 28, in the 2200 block of Willow Road — between Bracken Road and Whittier Lane.

Preliminary investigation reportedly shows that a 24-year-old man from Riverwoods operating a three-wheeled motorcycle crashed while traveling eastbound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Northfield Police Cmdr. Thomas Hanus said that the motorcycle likely struck the median while navigating a curve in Willow Road near Old Willow Road. The motorcyclist then struck an IDOT roadway sign at that intersection.

The incident shut down a stretch of Willow Road overnight. It reopened by 8 a.m., police say.

No further information was immediately available, and authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
