Athlete of the Week: 10 questions with Addison Stewart, New Trier hockey
Addison Stewart is an All-State center for New Trier hockey. She scored four goals in the state championship game on Sunday, March 16. Stewart also plays for the Chicago Mission club team.
1. Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
Yes. So before a game I have to go to Starbucks and I have to get regular strawberry lemonade, and when driving there I listen to the same songs — there’s a whole list of them. And then when I’m at the rink, this is for Mission, during our warmup, we kick a soccer ball around. And all my equipment I put on left to right, but then my skates are right to left.
2. What are your plans for next year?
Next year I am planning on attending the University of Connecticut to play hockey. When looking at schools — New Trier is a very big school — I wanted a big school that had good academics and athletics, and not only in the hockey world. March Madness is here and it’s a very big basketball school. It’ll be fun. I’ve loved it for so long.
3. What is your favorite thing to do off the ice?
I like to go shopping and hang out with friends, bake, go to the beach.
4. If you could play another sport, what would it be?
I think I would play volleyball. I played when I was little and loved it. Then hockey took over. So either volleyball or sports I have never played, maybe like lacrosse; that could be fun.
5. When did hockey take over?
I’ve always played soccer and hockey throughout high school. When I was in middle school, I played volleyball, basketball and hockey. In high school, it’s been soccer and hockey.
6. Who is your favorite athlete?
Patrick Kane (former Chicago Blackhawks). I grew up watching him since I was little. He always stood out to me.
7. What is your top sports highlight so far?
Probably state this year and last year has been so fun for club, not just for New Trier. I had a goal in both (club) championship games. Or making USA hockey nationals camp a couple of years ago.
8. If you are in Walgreens with a couple bucks, what are you buying?
I’m going to have to buy some Sour Patch Kids — or a Reese’s. One or the other.
9. What is something people do not know about you?
That I have two middle names: Rose Marie.
10. Ending with a state championship, how would you describe your senior year with New Trier hockey?
It was a very fun season, a very winning season and it was a great way to end it by winning state. Our team was a little bit younger. Last year we had an older team, more seniors. This year more freshmen came in, which was fun. We had a new coach this year, coach Ben, and he changed some things a little bit but it all worked out perfect and we had a fun year.
