High School Highlights: Loftus is LA’s top all-time rebounder; Galvan hits 2,000 points; Local wrestlers off to state

BOYS BASKETBALL
Loyola 56, Lake View 24

Brendan Loftus scored 21 points and nabbed 14 rebounds for the Ramblers on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Wilmette.

During the performance, Loftus became Loyola Academy’s all-time leading rebounder, surpassing Mark Feiereisel (class of 1976) and his 577 career rebounds.

New Trier 70, Vernon Hills 44

The Trevians claimed win No. 20 on the season with the Central Suburban League crossover victory on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Glenbrook North 62, Highland Park 55

Simon Moschin’s 20 points weren’t enough for the Giants (20-9) in their CSL crossover tilt on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Highland Park 51, Wauconda 44

Simon Moschin scores 18 and Alex Kriser 11 in the Giants’ road win on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Max Diamond added 7 points and 10 rebounds for Highland Park.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Loyola 91, Mather 21

Aubrey Galvan scored the 2,000th point in her high school career during the Ramblers’ regional victory on Monday, Feb. 17.

New Trier 61, Niles West 32

The Trevians discarded the Wolves in their playoff opener on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Skokie.

Highland Park 50, Leyden 49

The Giants outlasted Leyden in the opening round of the Leyden Regional on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Regina 63, Disney II 2

The Panthers move on to the second round of the IHSA Class 2A postseason with the win on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

North Shore Country Day 41, Rochelle Zell 36

The Raiders earned a postseason victory on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

GIRLS WRESTLING
New Trier Sectional

Jillian Giller (45-2) placed third and Sunny Aitzemkour (25-15) fourth in their respective divisions for New Trier to qualify for the state finals on Feb. 28-March 1 in Bloomington-Normal.

Harlee Hiller (23-1), a Loyola senior, won the 115-pound weight class to advance to state for the fourth straight season.

Dana Holt (26-4), of Highland Park, placed second at 155 to qualify for the state championships.

BOYS WRESTLING
Barrington Sectional

Kai Calcutt (34-0), a Loyola senior, won the 215-pound weight class on Saturday, Feb. 15, in Barrington, on his journey to defend his 2024 state championship.

Niko Odiotti (27-2), a freshman for the Ramblers, won the 106-pound division with a 13-1 major decision, punching his ticket to the state championships.

BOYS SWIM AND DIVE
Central Suburban South Championships

Stuart Timmerman won the 100-yard freestyle and 200 individual medley and was part of New Trier’s winning 200 and 400 free relays to lead the Trevians to a league championship on Saturday, Feb. 15.
