High School Highlights: 10 local girls wrestlers move on to sectional; Trevians gymnasts win regional

IC Catholic 56, Loyola 50

Brendan Loftus recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds in a loss for the Ramblers (20-7) on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Fremd 66, New Trier 56

The Trevians (19-7) dropped the nonconference tilt to the visiting Vikings (22-2) on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Highland Park 52, Grayslake North 32

Simon Moschin dropped 28 points to lead the visiting Giants on Monday, Feb. 3.

Max Diamond and Alex Kriser chipped in 9 and 8 points, respectively.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Libertyville 45, New Trier 37

The Wildcats (23-5) snapped the visiting Trevians’ seven-game winning streak on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Girls Catholic Athletic Conference Tournament

Loyola Academy (28-2) bested Rosary (63-16), Mother McAuley (72-44) and Providence Catholic (51-23) to earn a place in the championship game on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Waukegan 49, Highland Park 41

The host Giants (18-6) fell in the nonconference matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

New Trier 60, Oak Park-River Forest 35

The Trevians extended their winning streak to seven with the nonconference road win on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Highland Park 55, Niles North 22

The Giants improved to 8-1 in the Central Suburban North with the victory on Friday, Jan. 31.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS
New Trier Regional

New Trier gymnastics celebrates their regional victory Thursday, Feb. 6.

Clara Crossgrove placed first in the vault (9.425) and all-around scoring (36.625) as the Trevians captured the regional title, tallying 143.15 points in the five-team meet on Thursday, Feb. 6, in Winnetka.

Taylor Kim finished third in the all-around (36.4), while Sammy Mills finished second on the floor (9.375), third on vault (9.225) and fourth on bars (9.05) for New Trier.

GIRLS WRESTLING
Round Lake Regional

Lola Bianco (110 pounds) and Jillian Giller (140) won their brackets for New Trier on Saturday, Feb. 1. Isabella Castro (105) placed second and Sunny Aitzemkour (100) third to also advance to the sectional for the Trevians.

Dana Holt (155) earned a regional championship for Highland Park, which also got third-place finishes from Riley Moore (125), Dorothy Perez (170) and Lexi Rosenthal (190).

Harlee Hiller won the 115-pound bracket for Loyola Academy, while fellow Rambler Mma Akela placed third at 155.
