Demo of Glencoe golf clubhouse could start by April with construction of new facility to follow
The long-awaited Glencoe Golf Club project, which will see the replacement of the long-standing clubhouse, is set to begin after the Glencoe Village Board on Jan. 16 approved spending authority for the construction management team.
Trustees unanimously, and without discussion, approved the agreement, which will allow W.B. Olson Inc., of Northbrook, to spend $1.28 million for the project, including $86,000 for clubhouse demolition.
“We are all excited that it’s actually happening,” Village President Howard Roin said.
As previously reported by The Record, Glencoe voters in 2023 approved a referendum to rebuild and renovate facilities at the Glencoe Golf Club, including the clubhouse, portions of which were reportedly built in the late-1800s.
The project was delayed after a disagreement between the Village and Cook County, which owns part of the land on which the Glencoe Golf Club is located. But in December, an updated agreement between the two entities was approved, clearing a major hurdle for the project and allowing it to move ahead.
In a brief presentation at the Jan. 16 meeting, Glencoe Public Works Director Monica Sarna said since the approval of that agreement, “we’ve kind of hit the ground running” with planning.
Demolition bids were opened on Jan. 8, which included the low bid of $86,332 from Doetsch.
Sarna said trade bids are expected to be open on Feb. 6, and after that, the Village Board will be asked to approve a second round of spending authority for WBO.
She said the construction management company asked that spending authority be approved in two phases: demolition and trades.
After that, Sarna told the board that bids for permitting will be sent out, and if all goes according to plan, demolition at the clubhouse should begin in March or April, with construction starting in April or May.
