One dead in expressway crash near Northfield

A motorist died Tuesday morning as a result of a one-car wreck on Interstate 94 near Northfield and Winnetka, according to the Illinois State Police.

Emergency units responded to the crash around 7:11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, in the northbound lanes of I-94, also called the Edens Expressway, just north of Winnetka Road. According to Illinois State Police, the car struck a concrete barrier, and the driver was transported to a local hospital where they died from their injuries. The driver reportedly was the only person in the car.

No further information on the driver or the incident was immediately available. State police are investigating the crash.
