High School Highlights: Regina trotters move on to state; NT’s Crane breaks school record; Trevs swimmers set 3 league marks

CROSS-COUNTRY
IHSA Hoffman Estates Sectional
Ben Crane ran to a first-place finish for New Trier, finishing the race in 14 minutes 14.01 seconds to set a new New Trier and course record at Busse Woods on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Crane’s finish led the Trevians to a first-place team result, their fifth sectional championship in the past six seasons. Jordan Kreiner (19th), Walter Garrett (23rd), Jonah Swanson (32nd) and Evan Shuh (37th) rounded out New Trier’s scoring.
Dylan Dominguez placed eighth for Highland Park to advance to state. Lucas Hoobler finished 35th.
In the girls race, New Trier’s Josie Cahill placed fifth to qualify for the state championships. Kayla Ritchie placed 16th to also advance.
Lisle Sectional
Nora McCabe placed 25th and Niamh Byrne 28th to lead Regina Dominican to a fifth-place finish, good enough to advance to the state finals.
Lulu Tamayo (36th), Charlotte Kroll (42nd) and Olivia Mauer (54th) scored for the Panthers, who continued their special season in which they also won the Independent School League for the first time.
GIRLS SWIM AND DIVE
Central Suburban League South Championships
Zara Bolton was part of two meet records (100-yard butterfly, 55.03 seconds; 200 medley relay, 1 minute 43.96 seconds) and helped lead New Trier to a conference championship on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Glenbrook South.
Tierney Lenahan, Riley McNeal and Maeve O’Donnell joined Bolton on the record-setting relay; while Lenahan also won the 200 individual medley, McNeal the 100 breaststroke and O’Donnell the 100 free. Olivia Safarikova claimed first in the 500 free, and Marin Shimkus added wins in the 50 free and 100 backstroke, while joining the winning 200 and 400 relay teams.
Shimkus, Safarikova, Lenahan and Sylvia Deliduka’s 400 relay swim also set a meet record (3:29.87).
Central Suburban League North Championships
Brooke Elacin (100 breaststroke, 50 free) and Emily Fraser (200 free, 500 free) won two events apiece to pace Highland Park to a second-place finish behind Vernon Hills.
Megan Kim won the 100 free and the Giants won the 200 free relay (Elacin, Fraser, Kim and Apple Wojtowicz).
