2 suspects on moped flee scene following armed robbery attempt in Winnetka

Two people on a moped attempted to rob an individual at gunpoint on Friday evening in Winnetka, according to a statement from the Winnetka Police Department.

Police say around 5:30 p.m. on July 19 an individual stepped off a moped and drew a gun on an occupant of a vehicle in the 600 block of Locust Street, demanding the occupant’s watch, keys and car.

The occupant reportedly refused and began yelling for help, at which point the armed individual returned to the moped and, with another individual, fled the area “at a high rate of speed” eastbound on Pine Street.

The incident’s location on Locust Street is in between Pine and Spruce streets, a residential area two blocks west of downtown Winnetka.

A search for the alleged offenders, with help from other are law enforcement, was unsuccessful, police say.

Police believe both suspects are in their mid-20s with thin builds and at least one is male. The armed individual spoke with an accent, according to police.

Multiple firearm incidents have occurred in the North Shore over the past few months.
